Frequently asked questions

Where did the name Dolly's House of Latex come from?

Between us and our friends over on Team Topsy, we brainstormed some ideas.

We wanted the brand to have a persona, to feel welcoming and inclusive. Dolly came from 'protect the dolls' as a way of honouring the trans community. This fit well with the idea of fashion and dressing up, as something we associate doing with dolls.

From there the House of Latex came to be, incorporating the idea of a luxe fashion house and also a solid building, a place where our community can feel safe.

Why latex?

Essentially, because we love latex!

We know that clothing for plus sizes and other "non-standard" body types is hard to find, especially if you want to feel like yourself. We noticed the gap for latex clothing and thought we would like to try and fill it. We want our Kings, Queens and Inbetweens to feel like their best bad-ass selves.

Also we are coming into the industry with no prior experience or knowledge, but latex is not sewn like your other clothes. We don't have the skills for sewing, but we have learnt the skills necessary for making latex clothing. So here we are!

Why can't I see my size on your size chart?

The main aim of our business is to provide latex options to people living in plus size or other "non-standard" body types. Therefore this is reflected in our size guide.

However, we also offer custom size options on all our garments and we are more than happy to welcome customers of any shape or size. Please use the custom options or contact us if you would like some help.

How does custom sizing work?

We know that standard sizing doesn't work for everyone, and as we made all items to order we are able to offer custom sizing solutions.

For some items, such as skater skirts, we are able to offer custom sizes as a free option. This is because the 'pattern' is relatively simple to create and so we can simply make to measure without any additional effort.

However, other items may be subject to a pattern fee. This will apply to more complex items with multiple body measurements which require us to create or adapt a specific pattern. This will be detailed in the product description and you will be asked to add the pattern item to your basket and provide the necessary measurements.

Once we have created a pattern for you, we will let you know your unique pattern number and we will keep the pattern on file. This means that if you want the same or a similar item again in the future with the same measurements, you don't have to pay the pattern fee again!

I'm a smaller size, why do I have to pay the extra pattern fee?

We are a small business and it is not feasible for us to create and keep patterns of every item for every size. From the outset our aim has been to provide latex clothing for people who are not easily able to access it elsewhere, primarily plus size bodies. Therefore, we have chosen to prioritise those sizes.

We appreciate that this might be inconvenient for people in smaller bodies, and you are allowed to feel some resentment. This is something the plus size community is very used to feeling. However, we hope you can appreciate that this is the decision we have had to take to be able to run our business. We hope that this doesn't drive you away and that you are still happy to purchase from us, but if not then we totally understand and we are confident that you will be able to find something from another provider.

Why is there such a long lead time for me to receive my item?

In a world where we are so used to next day or even same-day deliveries, we know it can be frustrating to see that you won't receive your item for a number of weeks.

Our standard lead time is set at 3 - 4 weeks. Any changes to this will be clearly listed on the website, and if lead times change after your order we will notify you by email.

The reason for this is that all our items are handmade to order. We are a small business with two people at the helm who also have full time jobs and a family. The lead time takes into account the time it may take us to make the item, check quality control, package and have the items sent out to you.

We hope to be able to deliver sooner, but we give you the worst case estimates in order to set realistic expectations. We would never want to over promise and under deliver.

If you have any concerns feel free to contact us. We will always do our best to try and help where possible, but we must also be fair to all customers and that may mean that we are not able to expedite things for you. We will always be transparent with you about what we can and can't do.

My garment doesn't fit, can I return it?

As all items are made to order we are only able to accept returns in the case of damage or defects. Proof will be required.

We highly encourage customers to measure themselves and consult the size guides before ordering. Our size guides specifically only show measurements and our sizes, and not standard UK sizes. This is because we want to ensure you choose the size which is going to fit you best.

Please see our Returns Policy for more details.

How do I look after my latex?

For full details on wearing, cleaning, storing and looking after your latex items, please see our dedicated Latex Care Guide. This includes information, "How To" videos and product recommendations.

My question isn't listed?

If you can't find the answers you are looking for please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to help.

What are your delivery options?

Currently we offer Royal Mail 48 Hour tracked delivery. We do hope to expand our delivery options in the future, but whilst we are just starting out it is far more feasible to just manage one method.

We also can only offer domestic delivery within the UK, and cannot offer International delivery at this time. Perhaps in the future.
